Inguinal hernia (Lat. hernia inguinalis) – is the type of hernia that is situated in the area of the groin.
There are two variants of inguinal herniae:

Indirect inguinal hernia (Lat. hernia inguinalis obliqua) and direct inguinal hernia (Lat. hernia inguinalis directa).
The indirect inguinal hernia starts in the deep ring and descends through the inguinal canal in the groin and into the scrotum area.
The direct inguinal hernia differs from the indirect one in the course. It does not go through the inguinal canal, but develops directly from the abdominal cavity due to the weakening of muscles at the so-called Hasselbach’s triangle. It descends into the scrotum area, like in the case of indirect hernia.
When the hernial sac goes down into the scrotum the hernia is referred to as scrotal.

Omphalocoele (Lat. omphalocele) – indentation of a portion of the intestines of an infant due to a defect in the abdominal wall in the area of the navel. The intestines are covered with just a thin peritoneal layer and the amniotic sac.
