Botulinum toxin is administered to smooth out wrinkles at the upper part of the face, i.e. horizontal and vertical forehead wrinkles (so-called lion’s wrinkle), and the wrinkles around eyes and mouth (so-called smoker wrinkles). Botox also allows lifting of dropped mouth corners and smoothing out of the neck. The procedure consists in a fine-needle injection of an individually-determined dose of the botulinum toxin into the specific muscle. The procedure does not require local anaesthesia and lasts between 15 and 20 minutes altogether. The effect of Botox is to block impulses from the nerves to the facial muscles, which relaxes them and smoothens out the skin surface in the area. The results are clearly visible after 3 to 14 days and last between 4 and 6 months. In the case of very deep lines and preserved wrinkles it might be advisable to combine the procedure with another methods, such as injection filling, peeling or laser resurfacing.

The use of Botox substantially improves the appearance of the face, reducing or eliminating wrinkles and lines. The facial expression is softer, natural and – thanks to muscle relaxing – sharp and overly distinctive features are reduced along with ageing processes. For that reason, the treatment is recommended even to young people who tend to develop wrinkles. Botulinum toxin is equally effective in women and men.
Botox is also used to treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).
